Press Forward Wichita to level up local news

December 05, 2023 | Stories

On November 3, our Chief Strategy Officer joined news and information leaders from around the country at the Obama Foundation Democracy Forum in Chicago to discuss ways to cultivate a more inclusive democratic culture. Press Forward, a national coalition to level up local news, announced a network of local chapters across the nation– and we're joining the movement.

Press Forward Wichita, an evolution to the News and Information Fund at WF, will catalyze local storytelling and information to an unprecedented level. Other chapters include Alaska, Chicago, Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Springfield.

“Based on our work to revive community-centric news, it made perfect sense to unite with others through Press Forward,” said WF Chief Strategy Officer Courtney Bengtson. “The magnitude of this collective effort will amplify the local news landscape and actively shape an informed future for all.”

Since 2018, the Wichita Foundation has invested $1.95 million in local news and information initiatives, supported 15 information outlets, and unlocked $3.37 million in national funding.
