Press Forward Wichita: An Ecosystem Showcase

June 27, 2024 | Stories

A wave of inspiration swept through Odd Fellow Hall as nearly 100 Wichitans, partners and national leaders convened for Press Forward Wichita: An Ecosystem Showcase in May. The evening explored the significance of investing in Wichita’s local news ecosystem and the impact of the Wichita Foundation’s investments

Highlighting impact stories from our local partners, along with a digital notetaker to graphically capture their presentation, the event uniquely displayed the critical role local news plays in keeping Wichitans informed and engaged. Featured presenters were:

The event also included insights from national Press Forward funders including Jim Brady, vice president of journalism at the Knight Foundation, and John Palfrey, president of the MacArthur Foundation. Press Forward is a national movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news.

Press Forward Wichita at WF - a Press Forward local chapter - aims to reconnect Wichitans with the information they need to thrive. WF remains committed to supporting newsrooms of all sizes in our ecosystem to build and sustain health communities – a commitment that has garnered significant attention from national funders.

Capping off the evening, Brady announced a $1 million grant from Knight Foundation to WF to support our news and information efforts further.

“Knowing empowers us, helps us decide, and builds a healthier community,” said WF Chief Strategy Officer Courtney Bengtson. “An informed community allows every voice to be heard, addressed and included in solutions.”
