Igniting Philanthropy

March 27, 2024 | Stories

The Wichita Foundation’s work is powered by people, families and businesses who flex their charitable muscles to strengthen our community. In 2023, our fund holders were among those who unlocked opportunities to fuel citywide impact and action on emerging local needs; 335 fund holders and donors mobilized $6.8 million in grants.

Empowering sustainable solutions

As the Foulston Donor Advised Fund accumulated in value, John and Peggy decided in 2023 to mobilize a larger gift to equip people with sustainable solutions. The Foulstons worked with WF’s Director of Engagement, James Woods, to support a local nonprofit that aligned with their charitable mantra.

“We wanted to do something that made the most impact on people and on the future of the community,” said WF fund holder John Foulston.

A legacy in philanthropy

William (Bill) DeVore was no stranger to philanthropy. His legacy of giving will last, even after his passing in December 2023.

“Our family will continue his spirit of generosity,” said Alta DeVore, Bill’s wife. “In each act of giving, we honor the profound impact that Bill had in Wichita, ensuring his legacy lives on.”

Sparking generosity in the workplace

Through the Cox Communications of Kansas Charitable Fund at the Wichita Foundation - the philanthropic arm of Cox Charities - employees select and mobilize grants to nonprofits across Kansas.

“The Wichita Foundation has a strong focus on addressing local community needs and partnering ensure that our philanthropic efforts have a meaningful impact on our Kansas communities,” said Mandy Wilbert, fund advisor of the Cox Communications Charitable Fund at WF.
