Collective Action Fuels Access to Health Testing for ICT Neighborhood

June 20, 2025 | Stories

When neighbors speak up, and the community listens, real change happens. That’s what’s unfolding in northeast Wichita, where concerns about groundwater contamination are being met with action and a united front.

Thanks to a partnership between public and private organizations, including a $100,000 gift from an anonymous fund at the Wichita Foundation, $3.5 million has been secured to provide health testing for residents impacted by groundwater contamination near 29th and Grove.

This initiative is a direct response to community need and a reflection of our ongoing commitment to advancing upward mobility.

“The Wichita Foundation’s work is rooted in removing barriers and expanding opportunity, and we know that starts with listening to citizens' needs,” said Wichita Foundation President and CEO Shelly Prichard. “This investment reflects the power of generosity and collaboration to support lasting change.”

Administered by the Kansas Health Foundation, the grant program launched June 1 and will support local healthcare providers in offering no-cost testing for affected residents. An advisory group of community members, medical professionals, and civic leaders will help guide the process, ensuring that care reaches those who need it most.

Partners and contributors from this unified effort include the State of Kansas, City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, Fidelity Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, Stand Together Foundation, and Sunflower Foundation
